Obituary of Gene Greear

Church Hill - Wallace Eugene "Gene" Greear, 87 of Church Hill, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Holston Valley Medical center following a brief illness. Born in Ft. Blackmore, VA Gene had lived most of his life in Church Hill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines having served in WWII and participating in combat operations during the battles of Gilbert, Ellice, Peleliu and Anguar Islands. He was founder and former owner of Gene's House of Carpet and served on the Hawkins County Industrial Board. Gene attended Kingsport Community Church until health would not permit. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marie Clark Greear. Gene is survived by his daughters, Terri Hobbs of Kingsport, Brenda Litle of Florida and Donna Harrell and husband Robbie of Texas; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; sisters, Thelma Porter and Marie Porter and husband; brother, Rudy Greear all of Kingsport; his sweetheart, Claudia Lowe of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 at Kingsport Community Church, 2316 Memorial Blvd, Kingsport, TN. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Ron Lowe officiating. A military graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park (Mausoleum) with the American Legion #3/265 conducting the rites. Pallbearers will be Robbie Harrell, Jackie Vermillion, Clay Minton, Steve Meade, R.J. Harrell and Tyler Vermillion. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Litle, Brandon Litle, Cody Litle and Jesse Litle. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:55 p.m. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport is serving the Greear family.
