Obituary of Mary Carr

Mary Elizabeth (Larkin) Carr, 86, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 21, 2014 at her home She was born on October 12, 1927 to the late Oliver Smith and Anna M. Larkin; Mary worked at Grossett and Dunlap, a Tupperware Manager and also worked for the Tupperware Distribution Company in Blountville and worked as a Bookkeeper for Bert Smith Farms for several years. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church, Church Hill where she served on the "Counting Committee" for many years. She loved her Pastor, Gary Gerhardt and her Song Director, Gary Rice (who came by and sang to her - which meant so much to her). She was currently attending Life Fellowship in Johnson City where her daughter is a member and she was loved by the Pastor and Congregation. She loved both of her Church Families. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband , W.R. Carr, her beautiful daughter, Janice Miller, her sister, McClellan Dixon, a brother Lilburn Larkin and a sister Nancy Larkin. She was also preceded in death by her two loyal and best friends, Doris Stewart and Mary Bellamy. She is survived by her daughter whom she made her home with, Kay (Smith) White and her husband, Douglas L. White, her granddaughters: Susan Alvis and Brent, Anna Marie Smith, and grandsons: Todd Miller, John Miller and Katy, Bert Smith IV, and Lisa, Alexander (Alex) Smith, and Benjamin (Ben) Smith and Meghan. She had three great grandsons, Matthew Alvis, Huey Miller and Elliott Carr Miller and two great granddaughters Amber Alvis and Hannah Smith. One Great-great granddaughter, Kaiden Alvis. A Son-in-law who was special, Douglas Miller and wife Sylvia. One Brother, O.S. (Oscar) Larkin and his wife, Margie and their two sons and wives and children, Brian and Tina Larkin and Mark and Melissa Larkin. A Sister-in-law who was more like a sister, Treva Jones and a Brother in Law, Hartsel Carr and wife Iva. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other special children who were in her life, Kelsey Youngblood, Hayden Youngblood, Rebecca White, Peyton White, Rylan White, Lucas White, Serena Hughes, Savannah Hughes, and Christian Hughes. All of whom she loved and adored. Mary felt that she had been blessed with three wonderful sons-in-law, Doug Miller, Bert Smith III, and Doug White. Cheryl and David Frazier were close friends who did little favors for her and loved her; her neighbors; Muriel and Antonio Rhea were also special to her. She is survived by other very special friends, Joyce Everhart, Janet Brown and Nadine Marshall, Georgia Warren and Helen Jones. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at First Baptist Church, 202 E. Main Blvd., Church Hill or friends may also call at the home of her daughter, Kay White. A funeral will follow at 7 pm at the church with Pastor Gary Gerhardt, officiating. Music by Gary Rice. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Church Hill Memory Gardens, Church Hill. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Todd Miller, John Miller, Bert Smith, IV, Alexander (Alex) Smith, Benjamin (Ben) Smith, Matthew Alvis and Christian Hughes. Honorary Pallbearers are Jeff Stewart, James Klepper, Bill Grimes, Roscoe Trivette, Tom Henard. Family and friends are asked to meet at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill by 10:30 to go to the cemetery in a procession. Carter-Trent Funeral Home downtown Kingsport is serving the family of Mary Carr.
