Obituary of Fred Gillette

Fred J. (Jay) Gillette, Jr., 63, of Kingsport went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital, Bristol, TN after a lengthy illness. Jay retired from Holston Valley Medical Center. He was a member of the Kingsport Antique & Rod Club and Mt. View Baptist Church of Church Hill, TN. Jay enjoyed street rodding, UT football and basketball, NASCAR and rooting for the Washington Redskins. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred J. Gillette, Sr.; his mother, Bernice Johnson Gillette; a sister, Clara Ruth Huffine; brother-in-law, Charlie Huffine; maternal and paternal grandparents; and his father & mother-in-law, Jim & Lillian East. Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Patsy East Gillette of the home; brother & sister-in-law, John & Glenda East of Kingsport; nephews, David Huffine & wife Wendy of Roanoke, VA, Richard Huffine of Vienna, VA, Alan East of Charleston, SC, Matthew East & wife Susan of Augusta, GA and Eric East & wife Katie of Seattle, WA and his precious great nieces and nephews, Lauryn, Nathan, Logan, Molly and Mia East. The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Kingsport with Rev. Larry Browder, officiating. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the physicians and staff at Specialty Hospital, Bristol, Wellmont HVMC- ICU and ICU step-down unit for all their great care given to Jay. Also, to the MCOT employees for all their support. Special thanks to the caregivers, Shelia Blalock, Barbara Helton and Stella Conant, throughout the years.
