So very many good memories of my dad. He taught me how to show kindness towards others, how to laugh & have fun, & to keep God in my heart. I'm thankful that he was able to retire & travel with mom before he became ill. I know we will all miss him, & feel extremely blessed to have known him. It means so much to read all these comments & memories. Thank you all!!

As a pharmacy student and young pharmacist from the rural areas of Kingsport I was impressed by the character and humility of both Phil and Gaye as I began my pharmacy school in the mid-1970's. As we began our membership in the Tennessee Pharmacists Association my respect of their personalities and appreciation of their family continued to grow. I would sometimes get confused when I would see Gaye's sister in the Memphis area and look around to see if Phil was with her. Please express our condolences to your family for your loss and a sincere "thank you" for sharing the Enkemas with their professional colleagues for so many years across the state of Tennessee. Dear Gaye and family,
We have nothing but fond memories of Phil and your family when we worshipped together in the 1980s. Phil was always a kind gentleman with great integrity, and more imporantly a man of God. May God's promises of life eternal sustain you until you are reunited with him in heaven. In Christ, David and Debbie Sensibaugh

Dear Enkema Family: My deep, heartfelt sympathy to all of you during this time period. What a blessing Phil Enkema was to my family for many, many years. Phil gave my father his expert advice sometimes daily. My father trusted him. Phil let me babysit his children when I was but a child myself. Phil and his family picked me up every Sunday for church for years when I was a young girl. They took me with them for many Sunday lunches as well. Their home, the property by the creek...wonderful memories of a family that loved me like their own.

This is a poem Phil glued in a handcrafted wooden box that he had made for me. It was a gift to me a few years after he became ill. It tells alot about his focus.
" Look on the Sunny Side"
There are always two sides, the Good and the Bad,
The Dark and Light, the Sad and the Glad-
But in looking back over the Good and the Bad,
We're aware of the number of Good Things we've had-
And in Counting our blessings we find when we're through
We've no reason at all to complain or be blue-
So thank God for Good things He has already done,
And be grateful to Him for the battles you've won,
And know that the same God who helped you before
Is ready and willing to help you once more-
Then with faith in your heart reach out for God's Hand
And accept what He sends, though you can't understand-
For Our Father in heaven always knows what is best,
And if you trust in His wisdom your life will be blest,
For always remember that whatever betide you,
You are never alone for God is beside you.
Helen Steiner Rice
How fortunate I was to have such a loving, godly brother in my life! I am grateful for his kindness and wonderful since of humor. I will miss him deeply.

Dear Gaye and family,
Phil was one of the finest men I've ever known. His heart was always touched by those around him that needed a boost of some kind. In 1961 when he was a Pharmacy student in Memphis, Carl was in Methodist Hospital for surgery. Phil came to the hospital and picked me up and took me to your apartment for a meal that you had prepared. That was a very special treat for me and I remember to this day how much kindness he and you showed me. He always exhibited the traits of love that showed the way for others to follow. Everyone who knew him loved and admired him. Our sympathy goes to each of you.

I can not say enough about how much I appreciated Phil. He gave me my first "real" job there at the pharmacy, like a lot of others I know as well. He was so kind and patient. Whenever I had the honor to speak with him later in life, he was always interested to know what I was doing and showed genuine pride in whatever I shared with him about my career. Any success I have had in business can be attributed to what I learned while watching Phil at the pharmacy as a 17 year old. Most importantly, I learned how to treat people from just being around him. My thoughts and prayers are with Gaye and the whole family. Heaven gained a great one in Phil!

A wonderful man, loved by the community he served so many years with that smile and the caring heart. He gave our son, Bryan, his first experience behind the counter in the pharmacy, hired at age 14 to do odd jobs part time there, Phil, took Bryan under his wing, and gave him the dream of becoming the pharmacist he is today. Phil even took Bryan, then only a 16 year old, to a Tennessee Pharmacy event, I will always be thankful for the love and patience and the fine example Phil Enkema was for my son and our family. Much love and prayers to his family. A loss for his Bloomingdale community of family that loved him. Remembering with love and prayers, your Dad, husband, grandfather, our friend. Dear Gaye, Jim and Bobby & Barbara, Alvin and I wish to acknowledge our early on involvement with your dear family and grieve that distance since then has kept us separated. Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Bob were such a part of my early years growing up in Tennessee but marrying a Texan and leaving that part of the world separated us through the years. Phil was such a gentle, kind person and I know he will be missed by many.

Phillip and I grew up together in Elizabethton and the C St. Church of Christ. The entire Enkema family were such special people to my family......Carolyn was such an example for me growing up and even until her death. Phillip, I am going to miss our talks at church, which I have already since your illness. It was great fun remembering all the good times as kids, parties at your house. The big train, Crush on Bobby. Jimmy putting the preachers hat in the oven. Carolyn, everyone was so excited when you were born. I could ramble on and on. Such beautiful memories to fill the heart. Gaye and children, I am deeply saddened by Phillip's leaving us much to soon. I am sure Carolyn is waiting with open arms for him, as well as Robert. Rest in peace my dear friend. You fought a good fight and you finished your course and now are resting in the arms of our heavenly father.
Remembering with love and sadness.
