Obituary of Gloria Jean Hicks

Gloria Jean Hicks, 67, of Kingsport passed away Wednesday evening, June 12, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Lens Crafters and One Hour Optical. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bascom and Marie Newton. She is survived by her husband, James H. Hicks, Sr. of Kingsport; son, James H. Hicks, Jr. of Kentucky; daughter, Shellie Hicks of Kingsport; grandson, Dustin James Hicks; aunt, Estell Adams and husband Raymond of Knoxville; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday June 14, 2013 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kenny Hammonds officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday June 15, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at 12 noon at the funeral home to go in procession. The family would like to send special thanks of appreciation to the nurses and staff of the 5th and 6th floors at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center and Wellmont Hospice. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Hicks family.
