Obituary of Bessie Kate Cox

Bessie Kate Sandidge Cox , of the Yuma community, passed June 1, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a strong 19 year battle with cancer. She was born in 1930 in Scott County, Virginia to the late Walker Blaine Sandidge and Alice Victoria Byington Sandidge. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon Gale Cox, an infant son, and two sisters, Emma Winegar and Ann Tate. Additionally, her brother, Vernon Walker Sandidge, died in Europe in 1945 from wounds received in the defense of his country. She is survived by her son, Duffie Cox and his wife (Bessie's very special daughter-in-law) Charlotte, granddaughter, Amanda Cox, grandson, Samuel Cox, sister, Jamie Tate and husband Lloyd, all of the Yuma community; brother, Bill Sandidge and wife Doris of Hawkins County. Bessie is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Monday at Scott County Funeral Home. A Remembrance of her life will follow at 7pm. A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm Tuesday in Holston View Cemetery. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:20pm to follow in procession. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Those desiring may make memorials in Bessie's memory to the Wellmont Women's Cancer Services, 6 Sheridan Square Suite 1000 Kingsport, Tennessee 37660.
