Obituary of Alvin Lynn Monroe

Alvin Lynn Monroe, Jr., 39, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, May 28, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center after a long illness. He was born February 16, 1974 to Alvin L. Monroe and the late Brenda Sue Monroe. Alvin graduated from Sullivan North in 1992, worked as a customer service representative for Sprint and was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church. He loved to cook and was a big fan of Notre Dame Football. Alvin had many friends and was a good & loyal son and grandson. If courage and determination were enough, Alvin would still be with us. The struggle and suffering is over Alvin, now you can rest with Papaw. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center and to the employees of Sprint for their work and efforts. In addition to his mother, Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved paternal grandfather, Alvin E. Monroe and his maternal grandparents, Josie and Marsh Bright. Surviving are his father, Alvin L. Monroe, Sr.; sister, Betsy Monroe; paternal grandmother, Betty Bradshaw Monroe; two nieces; four nephews and several friends. The family will receive friends from 11 am - 1 pm Saturday, June 1, 2013 Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga St., Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Joe Barber and Rev. Ray Amos officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Kingsport following the chapel service. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
