We taught with Virginia at Sevier and would sometimes see her when we volunteered at Elmcroft Assisted Living. She was a lovely person inside and out and we will miss her. John and Peggy Starnes

She lived by the Word of God. That's why she was so Loved and Honored by Paul Goad and his family. And by everyone that had the honor to know her. She touched lives like no one else could. Always walked in Love and share God's love by loving others. She had the Love of the Lord and the Holy Spirit with her, and she always and was willing to share it. Even until the end, God and his Mercy was with her. She was a good and faithful servant. She will be missed and remembered always for her kindness, her Love, her grace, and her beauty .Joan Goad Rhea Hodge

I am Paul Goad' s sister. I was so sorry to hear about Mrs. Allison. I was just thinking about her a couple of weeks ago. I know Paul went to see her on July 2, 2019. Paul is so sad, lost and hurt . Mrs Allison was like family. Our whole family have heard Paul speak of her for years. He loved and worried about her so much. She was like a second Mother to him. He was always there when she called. He was always stopping by to check on her. I know many times he would be talking to me on phone and he would say I am on by way to check on Mrs Allison, or I am at Mrs. Allison's . He would or made sure someone took her to the beauty shop to get her hair done. I know if he could not get away, he would have our Mother take her, she took her several times. I did get to meet Mrs. Allison. What a lovely sweet Lady. I know as a family you will miss her, But I believe Paul Goad will miss her as much as you all do. Thank you for remembering him in her obituary, i know that it pleased and honor him. But he loved and honored Mrs. Allison. He called me last night to tell me about Mrs. Allison and he began to cry. Sad time for him. But he knows he will see her again some day when the Lord calls him home, Paul is a Christian and he loves the Lord. He knows in his heart that Mrs. Allison is in the arms of the Lord and is at peace and healed. She was a wonderful Godly woman that Loved the Lord and showed that Love everyday. Esp. To Paul Goad my Sweet loving brother. I just wanted to say Thank You Mrs. Allison for caring and Loving Paul. I do not know if you knew it or not, but I know you made a difference in his Life. So you rest in peace, know that you ran your race, won the race and now you are home.

So sorry to hear of the passing of my 7th grade English teacher, Mrs. Allison.
She probably never realized how many lives she touched with her teaching and where her students ended up in life. She was very effective in at least one case.
I was a quiet 13 year old transfer student into John Sevier after my school, the Douglass School in Riverview was closed for integration. I was one of three African-Americans in her 7th grade English class and boy, were we scared! In a strange social climate, speaking up in class was difficult and making friends was impossible.
Mrs. Allison sensed that, and would sometimes ask questions that she knew, only a black student could answer. She made us feel comfortable, and halfway through the year, we had come out of our shells and were actively participating in class. I made friends in her class that made me venture into other classes, friendships I still have today! There was resistance from some (which I learned later was inevitable) which made me push harder. Today, I'm even friends with them!
That's the result of a wonderful teacher.
She also sensed that I had an inward command of the English language thanks to the teachings at Douglass. She jumped on that quickly and further inspired it every single day as I remember. 51 years later, I retired from a successful career in broadcasting as a TV news anchor and writer and I credit Mrs. Allison for encouraging a command of the English language in her class. I may have gotten discouraged and forgotten as just another student, but apparently Mrs. Allison wasn't having that. Mr. Allison is also in my memory as an excellent Social Studies teacher.
Sorry for the long note, but sometimes effective teachers in life need to get a good, ole-fashioned shout-out and their family needs to know that she was loved. Condolences for your loss and I'm praying for you.
