I was a troubled and lonely kid in middle school having just moved to Kingsport. I had an interest in learning the drums to which my parents obliged and took me to where I would first meet Greg Simmons at Dream works music studio. What started as shy and clumsy drum lessons blossomed into what I considered a very close and important friendship to me. He taught me how to play drums, he also taught me how to tell time on an analog clock which for whatever reason at 13yrs old I didn’t know how to do. I had so many fond memories with him at the shop making cables in the back while I would bug him all the time. Even getting to sit in on a jam session he had once with a local band. He even dropped me off for my first day of high school. He was truly a rock for me in my youth for which I don’t know how lost I would have been without. I vividly remember the first time I decided to experiment with weed in high school and I absolutely hated the way it felt and wasn’t comfortable with where I was at the time and I called Greg and he came and picked me up no questions asked no guilt trip. We where not as close when Greg informed me of his diagnosis but I never forgot all he did for me. And I truly regret not being there more in his final days. I hate even more that I am just now finding this news out but that’s my own cross to bare. Greg you will be forever missed and be sure to give Neil pert hell!!

I am so sorry for your loss. Greg was a patient & a friend. He was a couple of years behind me in school but we had several classes together. It was sad to see him sick but I'm glad I had the opportunity to care for him a few times over the summer & share few memories about VHS.

I will never forget Gregory's beautiful smile when kidding around with him. I wish I could have spent more time with him. I love you both! Keep good memories uppermost in your mind, talk about funny and happy times, the laughter and love will win through the tears.

Greg was well-liked by his coworkers when he was employed at Quebecor, where I was his supervisor. I enjoyed seeing him at the Cookie company until his health prevented him from working. He was a good guy.
