I grew up beside Fred and Jewell, she was one of the most wonderful women GOD has ever placed on this earth. I remember when Fred retired the last time and they got their first camper, Jewell truly loved to be out and away camping, so many became her extended family she will be missed by many.
Fred my friend, I know you have lost your life long partner and Love, and I know the love that you both have for one another. Please my friend know that she will always be with you as your continue your walk here with us. You both mean so much to Barbara and I you are always in our prayers. You watched as I grew up from that 6 year old boy that moved in next door, you watched as I got married and moved away. You both watched as my family went through so much over the years and you both stood by with open arms and harts to help any way you could.
My grandfather Ward would never tell us goodbye when we left his house, he would always say "I will see you later" as I have gotten older I have come to understand the significance of this. With that,
Jewell we will see you later!

Fred and Jewell were among the first camping friends we made when we purchased a place at ORA 28 years ago. We visited, ate and had fun together. We enjoyed their condo in Pigeon Forge, trips to Florida and Myrtle Beach and several visits to Kingsport with them. They visited us in SC and always enjoyed our visits, garden vegetables, and peaches. Jewell called faithfully and was always an interested and thoughtful friend. We will miss her friendship, joy of life, and the love she always showed to us and to all her friends and family. Jewell was an original and we have lost with her passing; but heaven has gained.
Fred, Belinda, Lynn, Jasmine, Freddie and all the others- You are in our thoughts and prayers for your heavenly peace and comfort in knowing Jewell will always be with you in your loving memories of her. God bless you all. Keep in touch.

I remember the first time I met Fred & Jewell. It must have been in the early 1980's when my friend Pat and I stayed in my sister Nancy Hanks' camper the first time. We were on the lot in front of them at ORA and saw them sitting in front of their campfire the first evening we were there. The next day Pat & I had the bright idea of having a campfire, too, and we bought a small bundle of wood at some place down the road. When the sun started to go down, I went out to build our fire. I didn't know it at the time, but Fred & Jewell were watching us, thinking that I would never be able to get a fire going. He didn't know that I grew up watching my dad start campfires when they went tent camping. Soon my fire was blazing just like his. That's what broke the ice, and he came over to let us know that he was proud of us for getting our fire going. Jewell joined him, and it wasn't too long until we let our fire die down and joined Fred & Jewell at theirs, enjoying their fellowship and fried pies. Jewell was a gracious, hospitable southern lady with heartwarming ways. Pat and I grew to know Fred & Jewell well and enjoyed bantering with them and teasing Fred about his birdhouses hanging from the trees. We told him we thought they were "gnat houses" since there were so many gnats around. Each time I went to Gatlinburg with my sister Nancy or my friend, I looked forward to seeing Jewell, knowing that I'd be greeted warmly. She was a person who always chose to walk on the sunny side of the street with a positive, cheery outlook. When I was diagnosed with a serious illness in 2009 she often reminded me (through Nancy) of her prayers. What a blessing Jewell was in my life. And I have a hunch that many others can share a similar story of how she touched their lives as well. My prayers are with you, Fred, Lynne, BeLinda, Freddy and all. Remember that if you know Christ as your Savior, you haven't said good-bye to Jewell. You WILL see her again! Heaven is very real. - Naomi Taylor, Greenville, SC
