Obituary of Mamie Jewell Bartley

Kingsport - Mamie Jewell Bartley, 82 of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Holston Valley Medical Center following a long illness. Born in Scott County, VA, Jewell had lived in Kingsport for most of her life. She had worked for Kingsport City Schools and later retired as a teacher's assistant from the Sullivan County School System. Jewell was a 59 year member of Fort Robinson Baptist Church. She was a strong Christian woman who wanted everyone to know to "live a Christian life." She enjoyed nothing more than camping and sitting around the campfire. Jewell was a devoted loving wife, a caring nurturing mom and a true friend. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bertie Bright and her father, James Bright; brothers and sisters. Jewell is survived by her husband of 64 years, Fred E. Bartley, Sr.; daughters, BeLinda Meade and husband Randy and Lynne Coghill and husband Steve; son, Freddie Bartley, Jr. and wife Gail; grandchildren, Trey Bartley, Emma Bartley, Benjamin Meade and wife Brynna, Whitney Meade, Jasmine O'Dell, Charity Davis and Sara Coghill; great- granddaughter, MelRose Bartley; sister, Nannie McMurray; brothers, Alvie Bright, Grady Bright and Dewey Bright; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2014 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Freddie Bartley, Jr. and Pastor Frank Proffitt officiating. Music will be provided by Whitney Meade, accompanied by the ETSU Hoedown Bluegrass Band, as well as, Emma Bartley. Entombment services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Mausoleum. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Meade, Benjamin Meade, Trey Bartley and Steve Coghill. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport is serving the Bartley family.
